Term Calendar Sort Term

The Term Calendar Lookup Table has a field that is used explicitly for sorting. This is done so CAMS Enterprise can accurately determine the sequence of terms when computing, for example, billing information and displaying on transcripts.

The Sort Term field is used in sorting. The Display Term field is what displays in any Term drop-down menu. The Sort Term field is sorted alpha-numerically.

If you were to use SP-15 and WI-14 in the term field, CAMS Enterprise would see SP as occurring before WI and any information carried from one term to the next would not be correct. The term field should be defined so it sorts correctly.

Example:

WI-14 = B14A

SP-15 = B15C

SU-15 = B15L

FA-15 = B15Q

WI-15 = B15A

The first letter determines the century, A for 1900s and B for 2000s. The next two numbers are the year and the last letter determines the term, Q for fall, A for winter, C for spring, and L for summer.Using this combination allows the terms to be sorted properly.

Sub Term sort order would sort correctly by simply adding a letter to the end of the Sort Term entry for that Term. For example, SP-15 which has a Sort Term entry of B15C may have two Sub Terms, "SP-15 Sub 1" in the month of September and "SP-15 Sub 2" in the month of October. To sort correctly the Sort Term field for the Term and Sub Terms would be as follows:

SP-15 = B15C

SP-15 Sub 1 = B15CA

SP-15 Sub 2 = B15CB
