Repeat Policy
The repeat policy is selected in the Registration
Configuration Tab. The repeat policy determines how the cumulative
GPA is computed when a student takes a course more than once. Options
include Highest grade, Latest grade, LATESTWGPA, First grade, No Repeats,
and HIGHWOHIST. Only courses taken for GPA credit are affected by the
Repeat Policy (i.e., Withdrawn and Audit courses are not considered part
of any cumulative or term GPA.) All GPA courses contribute to the
term GPA regardless of their repeat designation.
Repeat Policy Options
- First - The grade for a
course is included in the cumulative totals only the first time it is
taken.
- FirstOnlyForgive - When
any course is repeated, only the first time the course was taken will
be forgiven and will not be included in the cumulative totals. All other
occurrences where the course is repeated will be included in the cumulative
totals.
- Highest - Only the highest-grade
course is computed in the cumulative totals.
- HIGHPRESERVEGPA - This option
determines the number of repeats a student can take before all additional
repeats affect their GPA. All attempts at a course are marked as repeat
“R”. The cumulative ERN, PTS, and GPA are adjusted in the term where the
higher grade was obtained while the historical information is retained.
These fields work in conjunction with this policy:
- Max Number
of Repeats - Sets the maximum number of classes a student may
repeat before all additional repeated classes affect their GPA. Only used with the HIGHPRESERVEGPA repeat policy.
- Repeat Limit
Start Term - Sets the beginning term to start counting repeats. Only used with the HIGHPRESERVEGPA, HIGHWOHIST, and LATESTWOHIST repeat policies.
- HIGHWOHIST - With this option
selected, all attempts at a course are marked as repeat “R” and adjusts
the cumulative totals in the term where the higher grade was obtained.
For example, an F was the grade received for the first attempt of a course
taken in FA-98. The course is repeated in FA-99 with a grade of A. The
cumulative GPA for FA-99 and thereafter will be computed using only the
grade of A (highest grade), and will not affect the prior terms—the cumulative
GPA will remain unchanged up to the term in which the higher grade was
achieved. This field works in conjunction with this policy:
- Repeat Limit
Start Term - Sets the beginning term to start counting repeats. Only used with the HIGHPRESERVEGPA, HIGHWOHIST, and LATESTWOHIST repeat policies.
Note: If a course
is originally taken and a grade of D is recorded, then taken at a later
time with a grade of F, the cumulative totals are affected in the original
term (term where highest grade occurred), thereby affecting cumulative
totals until repeated again with a higher grade.
- Latest - Only course taken
latest (for a grade option) is computed in the cumulative totals.
- LATESTWGPA - All
attempts count in the cumulative GPA, but only the last one taken counts
towards the cumulative earned.
- LATESTWOHIST - Previous attempts at a course are marked as repeat "R" and adjusts the cumulative totals in the term where the latest grade was obtained. Works in conjunction with this policy:
- Repeat Limit
Start Term - Sets the beginning term to start counting repeats. Only used with the HIGHPRESERVEGPA, HIGHWOHIST, and LATESTWOHIST repeat policies.
- No Repeats - All courses
are computed in the cumulative totals.
- Repeated Affects Cum Attempted Hours - Is not a policy. It is used in conjunction with all the repeat policies
to determine if repeated classes should affect cumulative attempted hours.
