Reg Classification is a table of Earned Hours as they relate to College Level. Up to five College Levels can be associated with each Classification record.
CAMS Enterprise is configured with a traditional approach to Classified and Unclassified as methods of classifying students. In general, Classified students are configured to have the system automatically update their College Level based on user defined parameters. Unclassified students are configured so that the system never automatically updates their College Level.
It is important that all business logic decisions are planned prior to implementing new Classification types. Things to consider include:
Student Classification Reference Entry includes:
Display Text - Text that will display for the Classification.
Display Order - Order in which the Classification will display in drop-down menus.
State Reporting Code - Populate as needed.
ISO Code - Populate as needed.
Active - Determined if the Classification is active or inactive. Inactive records will not display in drop-down menus.
Auto Update College Level - Determines if the College Levels present in the Classification will be automatically updated (as traditionally found with Classified) or remain untouched by the system (as traditionally found with Unclassified).
Note: College Level will only be assessed and updated automatically when a new Student Status record is created or the Mass Update Status process is performed. It will not update automatically at the end of a term in which a student crosses an Earned Hours threshold into the next Level.
Define Earned Hours and Levels:
Level - Pre-set and non-configurable. For a student's classification, CAMS works from the lowest level (Level One) to the highest level (Level Five).
Max Earned Hours - Determines the maximum number of earned hours a student can have as specified in the Set College Level field. The logic operates as such: if the student's earned hours are less than or equal to Level One, they will have a College Level as set in Level One. If the earned hours are greater than the value set in Level One, but less than or equal to Level Two, they will be set to Level Two. This logic carries through to Levels Three, Four, and Five. Once a student's calculated earned hours exceed the highest defined level's maximum hours, the student's College Level will not automatically change and the existing value will not be touched.
Set College Level - Determines the College Level value set when a student's earned hours are less than or equal to the Max Earned Hours value of the same Level.
GPA Group(s) - If any GPA Groups are selected, then only courses of the same GPA Group set in Transcript Maintenance will count towards Earned Hours. If no GPA Groups are selected, then all courses will count towards Earned Hours.
